I use the Muck VacTM to clean out the calcium carbonate that precipitates out from heating hard water and can accumulate 10 to 25 pounds of sediment in the bottom of the tank. This thick layer of sediment causes an inefficiency in heating which wastes 8-12% gas energy, annoying popping noise and increased temperatures which stress the bottom metal and weld joints and accelerates corrosion.
